The Cask Fest
Ahhhhhhh....................................
The pleasure of seeing so many enjoy so many. Many people, many beers. I attended my first cask fest this past Saturday at Blue Point Brewery. I was happy to see so many familiar faces in one place, and have the rare opportunity to tip quite a few 1/2 pints with you.
I quickly met up with Donavan, http://beer.donavanhall.net/longisland/ Rich, Mike, and the others from Brewers East End revival (B.E.E.R.) http://hbd.org/beer/ and the LIMBE http://groups.google.com/group/beermalt?hl=en I recently joined the LIBME and have known about B.E.E.R. for some time. They are a friendly bunch, and they had some excellent beers of their own to showcase.
Thanks to all of you who made my first cask fest such an enjoyable day. I really enjoyed seeing you all on neutral ground. I am usually working behind the counter when I see you. It was a nice change.
I spent a great deal of time working on getting some more breweries to do in store tastings. I still have details to work out, but the first 3 or 4 should be confirmed within a week or so. I will keep you posted.
I can't say I had a clear favorite beer. Actually there was about a 1/2 hour period that I know I tried a lot of different beers, but i was at my foggiest, so I am clueless as to what they were.
Some of the highlights for me, aside from the absolutely excellent company, were the following.
Legacy Brewing's Euphoria Belgian Ale - Absolutely one of the days best. Even if I remembered them all.
Brickhouse Paul Brown Ale - A top notch, full flavored, but smooth as silk Brown Ale
Donavan Hall and Mike Voigt's collaboration which they called "Royal Mild" read about it here.. http://beer.donavanhall.net/?p=31
Hopefully I will see you there next year!
