Wow! Jeff from Sixpoint is good!
Right after my Blog message went out, Jeff emailed me this description of the Spilly..
The Groundskeeper Spilly Is Sixpoint's modern interpretation of a classic
beer style. Inspired by the maltiness and subtle nuances of the classics,
the Spilly emerges with a plum and spice palate, rounded out with a kiss of
caramel. Subtle peat smoke finish coupled with pepper hop leads way to a
palate-cleansing raspberry sorbet.
This is the ultimate beer to sit back and appreciate fireside at cellar
temperatures.

Please tell me you got that whole description from sixpoint, and didn't come up with that on your own. I like the beer, but from that description you sound like a garrulous writer for wine and cheese quarterly that just got a b.j. from the hot Swedish P.R. rep working for the winery you were supposed to be giving an honest review of. That being said, the beer is money, malty, with out being overly sweet, Scottish tasting, without tasting like some stale water from a peat bog. With a smooth finish that keeps you wanting another sip. i will definitely pick up another growler.

C'mon Mike, do you know me to give a review like that? If I review something using more than 20 words, it's a safe bet I plagiarized it. Read the whole post. I said where it came from, as well as the fact that I had not tried it yet. Thanks for the laugh! For a low key guy, you come up with some beauts!

Okay, the writing style of Sixpoint's description is a bit hard to swallow, but as this kind of writing goes, it's pretty standard. Those of us writing about beer are always looking for ways to link together all those adjectives. You're right, beer shouldn't try to out do wine in the ridiculously flowery prose category. Now I need to get me som' o' dat Spilly. Cheers!
